Christian Samay is a first-chair trial lawyer litigating intellectual property and complex commercial disputes in federal district courts across the country. As a litigator for more than two decades and former General Counsel of a technology company, Christian is experienced in resolving business disputes through litigation or settlement and developing global brand protection strategies for clients. He has prosecuted and defended hundreds of intellectual property cases across a broad range of industries such as consumer electronics, information technology, industrials, energy, aviation, fashion, food and beverage, health and beauty, sports, and life sciences. Christian’s courtroom success is rooted in his special ability to translate complex subject matter and legal jargon into plain English for juries and judges in a common-sense way. He has applied this skill to successfully try first-chair jury, bench and administrative trials for a wide array of clients, most often in the high-stakes patent arena. A first-generation American raised in the house of a state champion wrestler, Christian plays to win for his clients, whether for a beverage company to air a contested Super Bowl commercial, an industrial manufacturer to sell ultraviolet light reactors used to keep drinking water safe, or an aviation fueling company to ground a private 737 jet. And winning in the trial trenches requires the ability to be quick on your feet. From early in his career, Christian has successfully led federal court cases through expedited discovery and preliminary injunction hearings on infringement claims spanning complex flight-planning software to frozen confections to designer jeans. At the fast-moving International Trade Commission, Christian obtained the extraordinary relief of a General Exclusion Order (the only GEO awarded that year by the ITC) for a leading cell phone case maker and then defended that GEO against multiple emergency challenges at the Federal Circuit.
Over the years, Christian has been recognized by Chambers USA for his expertise in intellectual property and by Legal 500 for his accomplishments in trade secrets matters. Christian was identified as a “Rising Star” early in his career and consistently over the years as a “Super Lawyer” of intellectual property litigation. Christian’s expertise in the field also earned him appointment by a state Attorney General and Governor to act as Special Counsel in the defense of over a dozen state agencies claims of software intellectual property infringement. Having served as in-house counsel and as a business executive, Christian also understands the importance of delivering pragmatic solutions to business clients, often delivering creative solutions to the challenges faced by clients rather than taking a cookie-cutter approach.
